Dr. Francis Shelton
Mayor
A graduate of Boley High School in 1964, Dr. Francis Shelton has been the Mayor of Boley since 2015. After graduation, she attended Langston University, an HBCU, majoring in Biology with a minor in Sociology. While attending Langston she was selected as a member of "Who's Who Among Colleges and Universities." Dr. Shelton went on to become a Biochemist at the Oklahoma University VA Hospital and Chief of Lab. Because of her love for her hometown, in 1985, Dr. Shelton moved back to Boley and purchased the hardware store and worked for the Department of Human Services as a social worker for Okfuskee County DHS. In 2000, Dr. Shelton received her Masters Degree in Adult Education and a Doctorate in 2003 from Oklahoma State University. After receiving her Masters, she worked for Langston/Future America as an Adjunct Faculty and Education Director and consultant for New Knowledge Education Forum(NKEF). From 2007 - 2009, she was President for the Royal Residential Land of Hope. She served as the Executive Director of the Wells Springs Community Services, Inc/Pennington Lighthouse from 2010-2017. As Mayor of Boley she wears many hats and received a Citation of Recognition by the State of Oklahoma, presented by Senator Anastia Pittman, as Mayor of a National Historic Township in 2016. She currently serves as the secretary for the Okfuskee County All Hazard Whole Community and Local Emergency Planning Committee and was recently appointed to the Okfuskee County Board of Health as a Member by the Board of County Commissioners through the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
